Opportunity 5: Thruster-control

It is possible to avoid unnecessary use of the thrusters by:

  • Stopping the thrusters during favourable weather conditions. Increased focus from the operators in charge of the thrusters
  • Increasing the limits for heading control
  • Adjusting the thruster control system to ensure smoother adjustments to the heading

Results (projections are uncertain):

  • Saved diesel costs of ca. 1.0 MNOK/year
  • Saved NOx-fee of ca. 50 000 NOK/year
  • Effect on diesel consumption: saving ca. 1500 Sm3 diesel/year
  • Effect on emissions: saving ca. 5 ton NOx/year

Repsol has implemented these improvement opportunities on some of their installations in 2014.

System group: Export and by-product handling (30-39)
Type: Operations optimisation Investment: < 0,1 MNOK
Profitability: Profitable Implementation: Implemented
