Opportunity 47: Better voltage regulators on the Oseberg Field Centre

Better voltage regulators were installed at the Oseberg field centre, allowing an increase of the maximum load on the steam turbine from 15 to 20 MW. This resulted in savings of approx. 7 000 tonnes CO2 per year.

The Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) was replaced, which led to the steam turbine being able to deliver more power: 20 MW instead of 15 MW. The old voltage regulators were then the bottleneck as they continued to deliver 15 MW until they were replaced.

Achieved measure effect is approx. 3.2 MSm3 gas and saved operating costs of approx. 7 MNOK/year.

Statoil has implemented the improvement opportunity on Oseberg Centre.

System group: Electrical (80-89)
Type: Modification Investment: 10 - 50 MNOK
Profitability: Profitable Implementation: Implemented
