Opportunity 45: Change to the operations philosophy for the production lines on the Oseberg field centre

The Oseberg field centre changed operating philosophy for their production pipelines on the seabed and they now remain pressurised during shutdowns. This leads to less flaring during shutdowns and saves approx. 2 000 tonnes CO2 per year.

Earlier, the gas from all pressurised pipelines was flared during shutdowns due to safety, but a new assessment was done and shows that a certain pressure can be left in the pipelines.

The expected effect is approx. 0.9 MSm3 gas and saved operating costs of about 2 MNOK/year.

Statoil has implemented the improvement opportunity on Oseberg field centre.

System group: Drilling, well and subsea (10-19)
Type: Operations optimisation Investment: < 0,1 MNOK
Profitability: Profitable Implementation: Implemented
