Opportunity 44: 1 Reduced use of the main gas turbine on Kvitebjørn

Only 1 main power turbine is run at Kvitebjørn for approx. 8 months annually, and this result in savings of approx. 13 000 tonnes CO2 per year.

In 2014, Kvitebjørn had a power consumption of nearly 13 MW, which is the maximum capacity of one turbine. After this, it was decided to connect Valemon to Kvitebjørn. This also leads to the need to run both turbines. Operations have then been reconsidered at Kvitebjørn, and runs with less spinning reserve, i.e. with less margin for trip. The asset runs with 2 turbines when drilling.

Achieved measures effect is approx. 6 MSm3 gas and reduced operating costs of approx. 13 MNOK/year.

Statoil has implemented the improvement opportunity on Kvitebjørn.

System group: Electrical (80-89)
Type: Operations optimisation Investment: < 0,1 MNOK
