Opportunity 42: Modification to the power generation turbines for increasing the capacity and efficiency on Draugen

Upgrade of existing power turbines to increase capacity and efficiency. Draugen is designed with GT35C and rebuilt into GT35C2 (SGT500C2) by optimising the gas turbine hot section.

Process to get there: Increased power need in connection with the Linnrom connection, upgrade of turbines done as a part of maintenance program.

Estimated annual results:

  • 1.5 MW increased power production
  • 0.5 % increased efficiency
  • 675 tonnes CO2
  • 0.3 MNOK reduced CO2 fees, 0.9 MNOK increased sales of gas

Shell has implemented the improvement opportunity on Draugen

System group: System general
Type: Modification Investment: 10 - 50 MNOK
Profitability: Not quantified Implementation: Implemented
