Opportunity 3: Reduced flaring

Procedures for flaring on Alvheim were optimised in order to reduce the amount of gas flared on a yearly basis. The new procedure sets time limits for how long gas can be flared during process instabilities, shut-downs and start-ups. Flaring is allowed for limited time provided that normal operation is imminent. In most cases this time period is set to 4 hours. This opportunity does not require investment nor additional operational costs.

Results:

  • Reduced emissions. The action has reduced the flaring from process instabilities, but the effect has not been quantified.

Aker BP has implemented this improvement opportunity on the Alvheim FPSO.
