Opportunity 21: Flaring

Reducing gas sent to flaring, since this is a significant contributor to emissions. Emissions will be reduced by reducing the volume of hydrocarbons sent to the flare through better planning of the production and operations. As an example, this can be done by:

  • Re-routing compressor seal gas to VOC recovery facilities
  • Reducing interruption flaring through improved control of re-compressors
  • Reducing interruption flaring using tools in PI to improve the control of various fluctuations/uncertainties in the process
  • Avoiding decompression at heavy lifts
  • Checking/improving valves leaking to flare
  • Leading gas from EPCON (part of the system for produced water) and degassing tanks back into the process using recycled gas from 1st stage compressor and ejector

Company that assessed/implemented one or more of these improvement opportunity: Aker BP, Statoil
