Opportunity 13: Operational planning

The process can be operated in an efficient way and energy use can be reduced by optimising the operational routines, increasing focus on the energy use, and better planning. Example of improvement opportunities include:

  • Optimising the operational routines for the export compressors, to make it possible to run one machine as much as possible
  • Planning the operations so that one gas turbine is enough to provide all necessary power. This provides significantly better efficiency than running two gas turbines at ca. 50% load each
  • Improving the cooperation on energy use between drilling & well and operations
  • Reducing the use of water injection can have a direct impact on the energy use
  • Implementing operative prioritisation which make it possible to run the turbines on gas instead of diesel
  • Harmonising between capacity and demand for the sea water lift pumps
  • Focusing on power supply when planning large jobs

Company that assessed/implemented one or more of these improvement opportunities: Aker BP, Statoil, Repsol
