Opportunity 12: Pump optimisation

Operational optimisation of pumps should be evaluated since those are among the largest energy users on oil and gas installations. This can be achieved through, e.g.:

  • Optimising the pump pressure against the throttle valve setting
  • Optimising the use of high and low capacity pumps
  • When the flow rate through oil export pumps is lower than the minimum flow rate, the pump goes in an inefficient "recycling mode". The energy use can be improved by reducing this set point.
  • Adjustment of the anti-surge
  • Improved control of water injection pumps. Turn off water injection pumps that are not needed.

Company that assessed/implemented these improvement opportunities: Aker BP
